The Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) would lead the discussions. The Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) recently commission a study into small and medium scale sanitation businesses in Kumasi and Accra to understand and identify the opportunities that exists for small and medium scale entrepreneurs and barriers inhibiting their ability to reach low income urban areas with appropriate sanitation products and services.
The specific focus of study was to understand the policy, regulatory and fiscal (or the non-market) environment of sanitation in low income urban areas. WSUP intends to engage WASH sector stakeholders particularly the private sector, local government authorities, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and Civil Society Organisations to share the findings of the study with them and to elicit their perspectives on how to upscale appropriate sanitation products and services to low income urban areas in Ghana.
The main objectives of the NLLAP are to
- Share the findings of the study with WASH sector stakeholders;
- To elicit from stakeholders the various perspectives on how to upscale appropriate sanitation products and services to low income urban areas in Ghana
- To identify the opportunities that exists for small and medium scale entrepreneurs and barriers inhibiting their ability to reach low income urban areas with appropriate sanitation products and services
Participants are expected to leave the event with:
- An in-depth understanding of the opportunities that exists in the sanitation sector for SMEs to invest. ·
- Clear modalities on how to break the market barriers inhibiting the entry and effective operation of sanitation SMEs in the sanitation market.
- A roadmap detailing specific priority areas the sector should target to create a stronger enabling environment for sanitation SMEs to operate.
