MWRWH launches RCN Steering Committee in Accra

Honourable Alban Bagbin, the Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing (MWRWH) formally launched the RCN Steering Committee in Accra at the Golden Tulip Hotel on 25th June, 2010. Performing the launch on behalf of the Minister, Mr. Minta Aboagye the Director of Water, MWRWH said that the Minister would have loved to be around himself. Adding that, “The Ministry is geared up for supporting initiatives in the sector.

Honourable Alban Bagbin, the Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing (MWRWH) formally launched the RCN Steering Committee in Accra at the Golden Tulip Hotel on 25th June, 2010.

Performing the launch on behalf of the Minister, Mr. Minta Aboagye the Director of Water, MWRWH said that the Minister would have loved to be around himself. Adding that, “The Ministry is geared up for supporting initiatives in the sector. Since his assumption of office, the Honourable has been emphasising the importance of water”.  Mr. Minta, recounted a number of successes of the RCN, since it restarted. These include among others, the creation of NLLAP, which has provided the sector with tools for informing ourselves on what is happening within the sector; it has helped in reaching one of the objectives for establishing the Water Directorate of the Ministry, harmonising effort; The hosting of the Regional Sanitation Symposium and most importantly making available several publications and informing people about activities in the water sector in Ghana. He emphasised that the inauguration was to formally “baptise” the network and move the process of it ownership forward. On behalf of Minister and Chief Director, he formally declared the RCN SC duly launched and commissioned the committee to start work.

 Mr. Naa Demedeme, the Director of the Sanitation Directorate of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) indicated that the Sanitation Directorate has a critical role to play and pledged the Ministry’s commitment to contribute to RCN. Earlier on there were presentations on history of RCN by Eugene Larbi, the concept of learning by Dr. Patrick Moriarty and the structure of RCN by Abu Wumbei. The SC is presently made up of 15 members including MWRWH-WD, MLGRD-EHSD, CWSA, GWCL/AVRL, WRC, CONIWAS, UNICEF, RNE, TREND/TPP, WaterAid Ghana, WSMP, Triple-S, IRC/WASHCost, KNUST/ SWITCH
