WEST Africa Regional HWTS Workshop opens in Ghana

The West Africa Regional Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS) workshop has opened in Accra, Ghana. The three day workshop, which spans from 6th to 8th May 2013 is hosted by the Government of Ghana with support from UNICEF and the Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS) Network under the theme, “Scaling up HWTS -National Policy Environment and Integration Strategies”.

Community Water and Sanitation Agency adds innovation to sustain water service delivery

The Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), on Wednesday engaged stakeholders on how to improve and sustain water service delivery through partnerships with beneficiaries.

The meeting, which was on the theme: “Sustaining Water Service Delivery: Innovations and Partnerships for Scaling-up”, would also showcase innovations and works by the Agency in some selected Districts to enhance water delivery services at the community level.

Sanitation Police to be introduced

Zoom Alliance, a subsidiary of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, is to introduce a Community Sanitation Police and Monitoring Taskforce to deal with the poor sanitation in the country. The company is, therefore, collaborating with the Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development (MLRD) and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to operationalise the deal.

West Africa water and sanitation journalists network elects new executives

The West Africa water, sanitation and hygiene journalists network, WASH-JN, has elected into office, a five-member executive committee, to oversee activities of the network for the next two years.

Volta Regional Learning Alliance Platform holds first meeting

 With the increasing awareness of learning and sharing as an integral part of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services sustainability, there is the gradual attempt by sector players to ensure its uptake across Ghana.

WASH stakeholders in the Volta Region launched its first Regional Level Learning Alliance Platform (RLLAP) on 13th March, 2013. The Deputy Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) who chaired the event gave the opening address. He stressed on the need to share information, stating that loads of information have been gathered by past and present initiatives but little sharing has been done. He indicated that this is the time to form partnerships and encourage multi stakeholder dialogues to enable us learn from our experiences. He stated that, that will enable us develop capacities to meet future WASH challenges. He called on all to take the platform seriously and appreciate the great opportunity it offers. He also stated that the platform will furthermore open the door to more interaction and networking among sector stakeholders within the region and beyond. On that score he declared the first meeting officially opened on behalf of the Director who he stood in for.

Stakeholders deliberate on promoting water integrity in Africa

The maiden regional workshop aimed at reinforcing efforts to promote integrity and accountability at all levels of the water management and service delivery chain in the Sub-Saharan African regions, is currently under way in Accra.
